Sarah Cornell

Actor, Writer, Improvisor

About Me

Sarah was born in Oakville ON, CAN when on her tenth birthday she received the album to the musical “Cats” and her life was forever changed. When she got accepted into the prestigious Sheridan College Musical Theater program (Canada’s version of the theater school from FAME) she felt like she had finally found “her people” and an entire world of expression opened up to her. Although she was hoping to play ingenues, at 6’2, it quickly became clear that the road of comedy was inevitable. She received the Second City Encouragement Award and began taking classes with their conservatory program. At 23 she was given the rare opportunity to star on Broadway as “Ulla” in The Producers. A role she would reprise in Toronto and again at Musical Theater West in Los Angeles (LA Ovation Award) Sarah’s love for sketch and improv led her to join The Second City Touring Co. and writing and performing on Comedy Inc.-Canada’s answer to SNL on CTV/Spike Network. In Los Angeles, Sarah was selected for The Groundlings Sunday Co. and her original character series Get Lost! With Sanjellica was featured on Rachel Dratch’s Late Night Snack on TruTV. Other favorite credits include Janet Vanderwagon on Coop & Cami Ask the World Disney, Evil Dead The Musical (Dora Award nomination), prankster in This is Howie Do It! The New Howie Mandel Show and Priestess Kit Onyx in the film Prophet.

Sarah Cornell Acting Reel

Rants & Raves

As a director of improv and sketch shows, I constantly cast Sarah in my work. She is professional, she gives her all to each rehearsal and performance, and is a delight to work with. Also, she is able to pull off roles that many comedic actresses cannot. She is striking, can sing and dance, and is wildly flexible with her range of characters.

Holly Mandel The Groundlings/CEO Improvolution

Sarah Cornell is among the best actresses I have ever worked with. From the very first time I met her, I recognized her innate talent for acting. I have rarely seen or had the opportunity to work with natural talent of her level. Sarah has a beautiful way of interpreting scripts and taking direction on stage. She has the unique ability to switch between scenes almost instantly. She excels at creating authentic and real people from her characters which the audience can connect with

Andrew Alexander Executive Producer of The Second City

Sarah Cornell is a talent of exceptional proportions. I was fortunate enough to have her star in my show, The Producers, on Broadway and in Toronto. Sarah's portrayal of "Ulla" exceeded my vision for the role.

Mel Brooks

The absolute funniest performance of the night (maybe of the season) is Sarah Cornell, doubling the trampy Shelly and the brainy Annie. Cornell knows how to nail both parts perfectly and manages the rare trick of appearing to be sexy but making fun of sex at the same time. Mariyln Monroe could do it; so can Cornell.

Richard Ouzounian THE TORONTO STAR review for Evil Dead the Musical: "Gory Days are Here Again"

As Swedish sexpot Ulla, Sarah Cornell demonstrates why she replaced Tony-winner Cady Huffman during The Producers Broadway run.

Dominic Von Ridelmann SCENE AND HEARD

Sarah is an extremely unique actor and has shown time and time again to be top in her field in such a short period of time in her career.
